Autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neuro developmental disorder that is the fastest growing developmental disability. People with ASD often have problems with social communication and interaction and restricted or repetitive behaviors or interests and also have different ways of learning, moving, or paying attention.
Early signs of ASD:
ASD typically appears during the early years of life. Early assessment and intervention are crucial to a child’s long term success.
- No smiling at people by 6 months
- No babbling, pointing or meaningful gestures by 12 months
- No one word communications by 16 months
- No two word phrases by 24 months
- Poor eye contact
- Unusual finger or body movements
- Loss of skills at any age
- Not responding to sounds, voices or name
- Not showing interest
- Poor communication
ASD prevalence
- About 1 percent of the world population has autism spectrum disorders
- Boys are four times more likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls
- Between 2008 to 2018 , the number of children diagnosed with autism has doubled
